# The big picture
Photosynthesis lets plants turn light energy into chemical energy stored in sugars.

# Inside the leaf
A leaf is a tiny solar-powered workshop. Its structure helps it capture light, exchange gases, and turn energy into something the plant can use.

## Meet the chloroplast
> [!DEFINITION]
> Chloroplasts are the organelles where photosynthesis takes place. They contain chlorophyll, the pigment that absorbs light.

## Two stages, one process
**Light-dependent reactions:** Light energy is absorbed by chlorophyll, splitting water molecules and releasing oxygen, while converting light energy into chemical energy.

**The Calvin cycle:** Uses the chemical energy from the first stage to fix carbon dioxide into glucose, a sugar the plant can use for growth and energy.

> [!TIP] Key takeaway
> Photosynthesis links light energy to life, through a remarkable series of steps inside the leaf.

# Light to energy
The overall equation connects carbon dioxide, water, light, glucose, and oxygen.

$$6\,CO_2 + 6\,H_2O \xrightarrow{\text{light}} C_6H_{12}O_6 + 6\,O_2$$

> [!EXAMPLE]
> Pondweed placed in bright light gives off small bubbles of oxygen.

# A quick recap
Chlorophyll captures light. The light-dependent reactions release oxygen. The Calvin cycle helps build sugars.

> [!WARNING] Common mistake
> Plants respire day and night. Photosynthesis does not replace respiration.

🧠 Study mode

Understand it on the page. Remember it with flashcards.

A good page shows you the shape of a topic. A deck makes you recall it. NotePetal suggests questions straight from your notes, each one linked to its passage and source.

⚡ How it works

Messy material in. Finished pages out.

Three steps. No design skills. No fighting with margins.

  1. Step 01

    Drop in your material

Paste notes or upload a PDF, Word file, code or a photo of the whiteboard. Up to 10 sources in one notebook.

  2. Step 02

    Make it yours

Pick a layout, paper, handwriting and ink. Every change updates the real page instantly.

  3. Step 03

    Print it & study

Download a searchable PDF, then practise with flashcards and quizzes made from the same notes.

🔗 Grounded in your source

Every passage keeps a link to the text it came from, so you can double-check the details that matter before an exam.

🔒 Private by default

Private files that only you can open, and your notebooks are never used to train AI.

🪄 Two ways to arrange

Keep every word, or study smarter.

AI reorganizes your material into concise study notes and links each passage back to its source.

📝 Your material

Photosynthesis happens in chloroplasts, which contain chlorophyll, the pigment that absorbs light. In the light-dependent reactions, water is split and oxygen is released. The Calvin cycle then uses that energy to build glucose from carbon dioxide.

🤔 The honest comparison

Why not just do it yourself?

😩 The old way

Doing it by hand

  • Hours rewriting notes by hand to make them “pretty”
  • Fighting Word margins, bullets and page breaks
  • An AI chat that hands you a wall of text, not a page
  • Typing flashcards out one by one
  • No way to check a summary against the original

🌸 With NotePetal

The notebook way

  • Paste once, get finished notebook pages
  • Text that sits exactly on the ruled lines
  • Definitions, examples and formulas color-coded

🙋 Questions

Good questions, short answers.

Anything else? Read the help guide.

Do I need an account to try it?

No. Paste text or Markdown on the sample page and restyle it as much as you like. Your preview stays in your browser, and you can save it to a free account when you’re ready.

What can I bring in?

Text, Markdown, code, PDF, Word (DOCX), PNG and JPEG. Files can be up to 20 MB, and you can combine up to 10 files and pastes in one notebook. Images and scanned diagrams are kept as captioned figures.

Will it change my words?

Only if you ask it to. “Keep my wording” arranges your text exactly as written. “Create study notes” uses AI to condense it, and every point links back to the source so you can check it.

Can I print the result?

Yes. You get a real, searchable PDF in A4 or US Letter. The preview you see is the page you print, with options for grayscale, hidden ruling and selected pages.

Is my material private?

Notebooks and uploaded files are private to your account. You can export all your data or delete your account from Settings at any time.
